[8:27pm: At the PC.]
It's hard to fit writing into my busy day. Wish there was a way to write while doing other activities away from the PC, to make use of the little pockets of free time in the day.
The problem seems to be partly motivation. I need something to push me to keep thinking about the topic I'm writing about and then record those ideas.
I'd like something that keeps track of how much I've written during the day and reminds me how much more I have to do.
I start out with a target word count and a "words per time interval", and the application updates me as I write more and lets me know how much more I need to write in each time interval for the rest of the day.
Sounds kind of dumb, actually. Why would I need to spread word counts evenly across time intervals throughout the day? Some hours will be busier than others, so I guess what I'm looking for is an average.
I'd like to have an estimate of the average I should produce each hour or half hour.
It also makes the goals seem more manageable. Instead of seeing you have 1000 words left to write, you would just see that you need to write 100 words each hour for the rest of the day.
Because my schedule often changes unexpectedly, I can adjust the tasks I'm doing to accommodate that 100 words in each hour. I can make those adjustments on the fly.
If I'm interrupted, no problem. I'll reschedule a future task to make time for the writing I didn't get done in the current hour.
I did some googling and couldn't find any that has this feature. The ones below might have it, but it's not clearly advertised in their feature lists.
I'll check them out in more detail at some point.
For now, I'll just build this.
